Post Secondary Entrance Exam Information

*Testing accommodations may be available for the SAT and ACT tests.  Please contact your school diagnostician or Cheryl Wooten for more information.  Accommodations may take up to 9 weeks to be approved.  A good place to talk about testing accommodations is in your student's annual ARD meeting.

As part of college preparation, you will typically take the standardized test required by the schools to which you plan to apply.  The vast majority of college except the SAT and the ACT.  But if you enroll in a community college, junior college or technical school you will probably not be required to take the SAT or ACT.  Most community colleges and junior colleges now require you to take the TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Assessment.  Schools use the results of this assessment to check the academic skill levels of entering students.

The College Board - www.collegeboard.org

The College Board is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity.  The College Board helps millions of students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success - including the SAT and the Advanced placement program.

SAT and SAT Subject Tests

     www.collegeboard.org/SAT

The SAT and SAT Subject tests are designed to assess academic readiness for college.  It tests what you already know.  Most students take the SAT and other college board tests for the first time during the spring of their Junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year.

Many colleges use the SAT Subject tests for admission, for course placement, and to advise students about course selection.  Some college specify the SAT subjects tests that they require for admission or placement; others allow applicants to choose which tests they take.

Advanced Placement Tests - AP tests

Taking advanced placement courses show colleges that you have what it takes to succeed in an undergraduate environment.  By making it through an AP course and scoring successfully on the AP exam, you can save on college expenses.  AP exams are offered at Aledo High School in the spring each year.

ACT Tests  www.actstudent.org

The ACT test is accepted by all 4 year colleges and universities in the United States.
